Blimey, the boss won't like the look of that" the bell attempted a last forlorn tinkle but sounded more like a stone in a bucket "Cost a bleeding fortune, we told him, it wouldn't last the day"
Mike nodded, his breathless ness subsiding, his pallor returning to an assemblence of normal "Put it in last night and by this morning it is in three pieces and the bell is chewed to hell"
They glanced at the sandy coloured softies sunning themselves.
"All day they will snooze, maybe yawn and stretch but the minute the punters are out the car park they become gladiating destructo cats" remarked Mike
"Aye, true that" said Mike and he lifted the barrow handles "Well better get to roping up another tire, otherwise they'll start clawing the big tree tonight!"

Tiddles opened a watchful as the wheel squeaked its motion, for the briefest of seconds the visitor at the cage could have sworn she saw a smirk cross his face, or maybe it was a fly tweaking a whisker.

I am in between two holidays and rushing about like a mad man which is why I've had little time to respond to your comments. Ironically, I reckon I'll have better access to the Net in Turkey than the Wye Valley.
Anyways, here's one I've posted elsewhere but I like the shot.....

Working on the premise that money/space is no object, my five [just five, really??] thingymes would be ...

An indoor swimming pool - it wouldn't have to be olympic size, but big enough to do waterobics and float around and thus actually get some exercise and help prolong the health of my deteriorating muscles. I would want indoor so it is all year around but with french doors along the long side to open to the world on that one weekend a year the weather plays ball.

Home - I would oversee a project to build and equip my ideal home, with wizzy gadgetry so I can manage more myself, a study with books shelves in warm rich tones. This includes outdoor space, and landscaping, gotta be somewhere with views. It might end up being more than one home, might have an annexe for family, another one or two smaller as luxury-holiday-lets or for when my family visit enmass.

Staff - I would employ someone to cook and clean and someone to be a driver/general maintenance person. I'd provide their accommodation for them and generous holiday entitlements etc. But as my home woud be larger I'd sort of be sharing the wealth by employing people and tradepersons etc. I'd also employ the services of a physiotherapist/trainer to get my arse [and the rest of me] motivated.

Access to planes - I'd like access to a private plane, so I could go visit my bud or she could come visit me. Enable my family to hop off for a euro city break or even transatlantic bring my buds kin to see her in Scotland. With money no option, I'd hire carers so I could travel more too.

Charity - While there are several charities I'd love to support, there is one particular one I'd love to send a regular kick ass sum, that's Jubilee Sailing Trust. I sailed with them four times and it was life changing, their work, ethos, adventure is priceless and I'd love to be a major sponsor to keep them going. I'd want to sponsor the grotty stuff, the hard to sell item, and I would not expect PR, advertising, priority invites etc. I'd just want to make their work a little easier.

 Comments

Friday Fives Must Haves

If money was no object what would be your five must haves.
I thought wow that would be easy but really it has been hard to pick.

Because there are the usual things but having bills payed, a always home etc. Even those are a must have and wont be a happening. This is what I thought of if I could have anything

1. I would love enough money so that the dailey living is met so that I could use my time to volunteer more than I do now.
2. I would love to travel and meet new people and enjoy taking my pictures

3. I wold love to be able to help save animals
4. enjoy every minute of every day more with out worries
5. again there is lot but again alot of my must haves could be if I ever got my bills a even keel.

This is difficult because I am like Spicey happy with my lot in general and obviously would help as many people in this world as I could if I could if I was able. However if I really have to pick five must haves here they are.

1. Id like to travel to some unusual places that I wouldn't normally pick.

2 A really nice camper van big enough to be comfortable in but easy to handle. I really do miss my old one.

3 A bigger house, I am really happy here but a couple of extra rooms would be nice so when friends come to stay or the grand kids I don't have to shift things about so much.

4 A holiday home in Spain or Portugal so Spicey and me could winter in comfort <img src="/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif" alt=":>>" class="middle" border="0">

5 Id like to be able to set up an account for each of my grandchildren so they had something to use for uni or whatever They decide to do.

1. There would be a pill that could be given to children at the onset of puberty to ensure there was absolutely no moodiness alongside the hormones. This would prevent all door-slamming, Attitude with the capital A and 'I hate you's' It would make life so much easier as it would effectively mean stress free teenage years for both the teenager and the parent.

2. I would have a complete plastic surgery overhaul - not so I looked 20 again or so much that I resembled a cat with a lopsided face, but enough to make me look fresh and alive, oh and slim of course.

You know what, I started writing this thinking about all the selfish things I would love to have, and with the exception of the first here - the teenage years really are a nightmare, I realised that the things I want I really do either already have or are in my power to get. I have a great family, even the teen is a wonderful woman in the making despite the Attitude. My husband adores me and I him. My marriage is happy, we are all healthy and with less greed and more movement I can be the shape I want to be. OK, I don't look young, but I am not young - I just need to learn to love myself the way I am, the way other people do.

So, if money was no object I really don't think I would change a thing - at least for myself. I think it would be better to feed and educate the world, change religious attitudes to worldwide acceptance of others and to ensure every person on the planet has access to clean water, shelter, medication and love.

Perhaps it's the way I was brought up in a large family and was taught to be grateful for what I had and not crave after the things I couldn't have. Either way I'm generally content with my lot. BUT .... in the spirit of Friday Fives ... here goes.

Firstly, it would have to be a new car (nothing fancy) as my 12 year old Vauxhall Astra is currently being used by my family who have had to dispose of their own car.

Secondly, it would have to be a new house as I must have somewhere to live once I return to the UK later this year.

Thirdly, I must have a new summer wardrobe as I'm now 2 stone lighter than I used to be.

Fourthly, I must have a 'proper' holiday - three months a year in a warmer climate seems to suit me fine!

Finally, I must have my head examined for trying to keep "Our Place" alive!!!!

Thanks to Happy for nagging me to do this!!!

I like this question. Do I go down the selfish route, the world domination route, or healing the world...

Dumb question!!

First of all I would make sure my mum was set up for life - buy her a nice home mortgage free and arrange for her bills to be paid for her from the age of 62. As much as I moan about her I do love my mum. She struggled bringing me up single handedly until I was 11 and then when she got married, instead of life getting easier it became much more complicated. Despite working hard her entire life, I don't think she has much set aside for retirement. She's always there for me and deserves a little comfort and security.

Secondly? Somehow I'd transport my old Redditch house down here so I've my dream home in a better location. It might look out of place on this estate so the exterior may need some reworking, and it'd have new double glazing and all the energy efficient doodahs and gizmos available. I so loved that house and the space and light made me so happy. It would also give the boys a room of their own again and a playroom that I can shut the door on each night!

Thirdly? Something not about me. Somehow, I'd find a way to stop girls getting pregnant until they were at least 20 and had completed a few years employment or a degree. All these baby girls having babies and abortions makes me feel sick that they are letting their childhood go so early and missing out on living life for themselves. I can't stand this attitude that kids should be handed everything on a platter, be famous or rich without putting any effort in to the system. Having experienced some adult life they might then raise their dreams and aspirations a little higher and give their own kids a decent upbringing with the values instilled in me growing up. Why? Society seems to be self destructing and I think common sense and decency needs to be instilled all over again.

Fourth... A scheme where all overweight people can join, learn about healthy eating and exercise, spend a week at a fit farm kinda place and following that be given ongoing support (and finance if necessary) to maintain a healthier lifestyle. If there were people requiring medical attention (by this I mean major stuff like surgery, chemo, ivf) they'd be refused if they didn't do this program first and agree to making healthy lifestyle changes after. Why should tax payers support the NHS if people don't respect themselves in the first place?

Finally? A guarantee that Hubby and I will be happily married til old age and that our boys will have the same. I can't imagine the pain of all the parents who've had to bury a loved one too soon and don't want to have to. I know marriages take hard work to succeed and I believe we have what it takes, but I can't I give life without Hubby in it and don't want to!

Colours O’T’Year by Dennis Rhodes

JANUARY
Gen'lly speykin, tha can reckon at it'll bi cowd i' January an if wi bahn ter get sum snaw, mooar nor likely that's when it'll cum. Ah knaw at it's a damn nuisance if tha's ter ger abaht ennywheear an i' t'tahn it sooin turns ter slush an ruins thi booits bur a nice snaw covered scene aht i' t'country is as bonny a seet as tha’ll see. That's what cums ter mind fer me when Ah think abaht January soa Ah've got ter seh at t'colour fer this month is WHITE.

FEBRUARY
One thing tha can ber certain abaht i' Febyary is at t'shops 'll bi full o' stuff for Valentine's Day an tha can spend a lot o' silly brass if tha's a mind. Ah suppoase ther's nowt much wrong wi choclets er flahrs er even cannle lit dinners ter pleease thi 'earts desire but sendin cards ter tell sumbdy abaht thi true love an then not signin em seems barmy ter me. Ah'll admit at Ah've done mi share o' gallivantin after lasses bur it meks mooar sense ter tell em straight ter ther face what tha thinks an if the tell thi ter get lost tha can try thi luck sumwheear else wiaht wastin time wundrin if the got thi message. Mooinin abaht feelin lovesick wor nivver my style. Ah think t'colour ter associate wi a soppy sentimental time like this is a sickly shade o' PINK

MARCH
It cums in like a lion an goas aht like a lamb so the seh. Well, even tho' t'seasons get jumbled up thease days it's reyt at mooar often than not it'll bi windy i' March. Ah'm not ser sure abaht it goin aht like a lamb tho'. It dunt ayf blow up on 'eath Common at t'back end o' t'month when t'feeast cums. Ther's times when t'stallholders ev all on ter keep ther covers thra blawin away an Ah remember one year when t'big wheel ed ter cloise dahn cos it wor too dangerous. Ponderin abaht all this, Ah wor thinkin what colour duz it leead mi ter an Ah asses ahr lass what shi associated wi t'wind. Shi sez "Peys, cabbige an sprouts" an Ah thowt, Oh aye - GREENS

APRIL
Esta ivver bin ter Farndale i' April. Ther's bus loads cum thra all ovver ter see t'wild daffodils an if tha times it reyt an drops on a nice day it's a seet worth seein anawl. Cooarse, moast fowk grow daffs i' ther gardins an t'Cahncil plant em i' rahndabahts an grass verges at t'side o' t'rooad soa ther's allus a vast on em ter see choose wheear yer goa. Ah knaw at the doant last ser long an at after the finish bloomin t'leeaves ger a bit stragly an messy but the seem ter tell thi at winter's ovver an it's Sping ageean. Tha can fair feel thi spirits risin. If tha cums accross 'oast on em, as yon poet feller puts it, ther like a yeller carpit, soa that's mi colour this month - YELLOW

MAY
Same as a lot o' fowk nahadays, me an t'missis go abrooad fer us 'olidas ter meck sure on a bit o' sun. Wi dunt want it too 'ot tho' ner too crahded so wi gen'lly go i' May. it's still plenty wahm enuff i' Spain, Italy, Greece er enny o' them places an ther's allus fowk ligged aht o' t'beaches soakin up t'sun. Not at we do owt much o' that bur as wi stroll dahn t'prom tha's foarced ter noatice all t'young men an wimmin wi nowt much on, showin off ther tanned bodies. Sum o' t'buxom lasses goin arahnd topless ‘re enuff ter gi'e thi palpitations an 'appen wuss if t'wife catches thi lukkin. Well, that's mi colour fer May -BRONZE.

JUNE
This is mi fav'rite month. Altho' it's mi birthday an Ah get ter bi a year owder Ah still think it's t'nicest part o' t'year. All bein well, t'weather should bi awreyt an tha gets them long days when ther 'ardly seems ter bi any neet time at all. Canta just pitcher liggin aht on a grassy bank, gazin up at a clear sky wi mebbe a scrap o' white clahd driftin accross. Tha's nivver seen such a gorgeous blue in thi life. Aye, June's colour 'as got ter bi BLUE.

JULY
Sum fellers worry thersens sick ovver retirement, bein on life's scrap 'eap an wondrin what ter do ter pass time on bur Ah dunt see it like that. Ser long as tha keeps active an 'as enuff brass ter manage wiaht scrimpin ter much, life's awreyt. Fer one thing, tha can spend mooar time wi thi granbairns. Mi grandowter fancies 'ersen as a bit on a runner an one o' mi pleasures is goin up to t'schooil on spooarts day. Ivvrybody meks a put ter see at it's a good do, 'specially t' caretekker. 'e guz ter tahn wi buntin ivvrywheear an Ah think the mun a picked up a job lot cheeap cos t'biggest part on it's t'same colour. Ther's diffrent balloons o' cooarse an t'kids weear team tee-shirts bur as tha walks thru t'gate inta t'cloise, thi ovverall impression is breet ORANGE.

AUGUST
Long schoill 'olidas! Younguns thease days are allus moanin abaht evvin nowt ter do bur as Ah recall it when Ah wor a lad wi wor laikin aht thra morn ter neet an ther wernt enuff 'ahrs i' t'day. Ne'er mind abaht t'weathermen's records, An knaw it nivver used ter rain i' August. Mi best mate's fatther wor a farmer an wi ed sum grand times dahn at 'is place. lt'd bi 'arvest time durin t'schooil 'olidas an wi'd go up ter t'field wi t'men an reckon ter 'elp tho Ah suppoase wi wor really mooar on 'indrance. If Ah shut mi een Ah can see it nah, a field o' ripe corn waitin for t'baler. Ah'm not sure what colour tha'd call it - sooart o' creamy beige 'appen but wi'll go poetic an call it GOLD

SEPTEMBER
Yer'll ev gathered thra mi ramblins up ter nah at Ah'm an ahtdooar type an summat Ah like ter do is wander rahnd country lanes pickin blags. Ther's nowt much ter beat a nice blackberry an apple pie an my missis can mek one. So Ah get pleasure boath rooads - blaggin an eytin t'pies at after not ter mention gerrin t'fruit fer nowt. Black allus meks thi think o' sad things tho' an ther's nowt misrable abaht September, it's a champion time o' year. Nay, it mun bi better ter link it wi a rich colour same as thi fingers go wi t'blaggy juice - PURPLE.

OCTOBER
Finnd thissen a bit o' risin grahnd wheear tha can gaze accross at a patch o' woodland and ther’ll bi a gradeley view choose when it is. Even i' winter t'bare branches on t'trees spread aht stark ageean t'sky i' majestic fashion. Then cum spring the staht turnin breet green wi t'new leeaves till the end up i' summer covered wi foliage. Bur it's at t'back end when ther at ther best. just afooar t'leeaves fall the turn ter all diffrent shades o' brahn an t'trees look marvellous. Fowk travel ter America ter see New England i' t'fall but ther's enuff seets i' Owd England ter suit me. That's thi colour fer October - BROWN

NOVEMBER
Wor a dowly month November is. It's dahk bi teatime on t'best o' days an ther int ser many o' them, sumtimes it 'ardly gets leet at all. Bairns 'appen ger a bit o' fun wi ther mischief neet an ther bonfires but for mooast on us wi doant want ter shift thra t'fire side wi us knees up t'chimla. What wi t'fog an drizzle an low clahd it's noa pleasure goin aht ennywheear. Ther's not much colour left i' t'gardin an ivvrythin's a mucky GREY

DECEMBER
Ther's onny one thing at dominates December an that's Chrismas an all t'shoppin at guz wi it. Ivvybody's trailin abaht lukkin fer presents at the can't affooard for fowk at the dunt care abaht all t'rest o' t'year. Fellers end up wi ties at the wudn't weear under 'igh neck jumper an lasses get perfume at the dunt like t'smell on even if it did cost mooar ner gowd dust. Then ther's all t'Chrismas dinners wi ivvry group at tha a member on, double t'price an packed like sardines. Cooarse it int all bad, ther's t'carol service wi t'Silver Band when tha can ev a reyt good sing an ther's enuff fowk ter drahn thi so it dunt matter abaht bein i' tune An it's grand ter ger all t'famiy tergether fer once, eytin an suppin an 'ooapfully not fallin aht. Then when tha thinks abaht Rudolph's nooase, 'olly berries an thi bank balance, one colour's fooarced ter cum ter mind - RED.

Sunshine on a lovely place
Who drank a can
Of ancient coca cola
The can was old
But this knight so bold
Was feeling rather dusty
Now dressed in gear
From a past year
The old can turned him rusty.

"Can you believe that someone in my congregation stole it?"

"NO!," then an idea struck him, " You want to know how to get your bike back?"

No argument. These two goldfinch are cheerful. We bought a goldfinch feeder last March with the black seed they supposedly like. We bet we wouldn't see any on it, but yesterday and today it seems popular. Although I was named Grumpy last week (and Lardy by one who should know better)it did make me feel better seeing them. That makes three of us.

The fourth is that some antibiotics are kicking in now and I feel almost human again. I think I can count on the fingers of one hand the days when I have really felt well. today seems one of them.

Finally, I have been able to do some painting again and the creative juices are beginning to flow. I think the winter must have frozen them!
